NBA OWNERS PLACE NEW DEAL ON THE TABLE!

The NBA owners have given the players until Wednesday to accept a deal that could end the lockout!  Basketball fans are eager for the lockout to be over, and so are the players.  Both sides have lost millions of dollars, so I'm anxious to see what the players will do.  I'm  unsure of all of the issues going on in the meetings, but the way the deal is being presented, it seems like a "strong arm" tactic by the owners.

Check out the article from Espn.com:

NEW YORK -- Commissioner David Stern gave NBA players an offer and a deadline: Accept a chance to earn up to 51 percent of basketball-related income by Wednesday or get ready for a deal that's a whole lot worse.
He wouldn't call it an ultimatum, but it didn't sit well with the union.
"The players will not be intimidated," attorney Jeffrey Kessler said early Sunday after eight hours of negotiations stretched late into the night. "They want to play, they want a season, but they are not going to sacrifice the future of all NBA players under these types of threats of intimidation. It's not happening on Derek Fisher's watch; it's not happening on Billy Hunter's watch; it's not happening on the watch of this executive committee."
Kessler said the proposal was really 50.2 percent for the players and called the chance of them ever reaching 51 percent a "fraud" and an "illusion."
If players don't agree to it by Wednesday, Stern said they would get a deal that would guarantee them just 47 percent of BRI and call for a flex salary cap.
"We hope that this juxtaposition will cause the union to assess its position and accept the deal," Stern said.
Thus ended another frustrating day, one that puts a lengthy 2011-12 season in doubt.
"Today was another sad day for our fans, for arena workers, our parking lot attendants, our vendors. Very frustrating, sad day," union president Fisher added. "We, for sure, unequivocally, made good faith efforts to try to get this deal done tonight. And we're at a loss for why we could not close it out."
And it remains difficult to see how they can. Stern certainly wouldn't speculate on the chances.
"I'm not going to make percentage guesses or anything like that. We want our players to play. We'd like to have a season," he said. "These are the terms upon which we're prepared to gear up and get in as many games as possible."
Players and owners met with federal mediator George Cohen for more than eight hours, and Stern said Cohen offered six "what if?" recommendations relating to the BRI split and the salary cap system.
Stern said owners accepted the first five and would put them in writing in a formal proposal to the players, hopefully Sunday. But it wasn't acceptable Saturday, with Stern saying Kessler rejected it.
"I think it's fair to say that speaking on behalf of the union, Mr. Kessler rejected the mediators' recommendations and our proposal," Stern said. "But hope springs eternal, and we would love to see the union accept the proposal that is now on the table."
Though insistent on no more than a 50-50 split, owners will offer the players a band that would allow them to receive between 49 percent and 51 percent of revenue. However, Stern's description of how it would work was confusing, and Kessler said under "the wildest, most unimaginable, favorable projections and we might squeeze out to 50.2."
Fisher said the players' proposal would have given them about 51 percent, with a portion taken out to use for retired players' benefits
Day 128 of the lockout came at the end of a tenuous week in which both sides seemed as much at odds with themselves as each other. Some players took part in conference calls to discuss the option of decertifying the union and filing an antitrust case against the league, while hardline owners were in favor of offering the players 47 percent now and not going beyond 50.
"I've been ready to sign a decertification petition since July?" Nets guard Deron Williams tweeted Saturday. "Can't believe we are just now going this route! SMH."
Although the lengthy meeting offered hope of compromise -- despite the rare attendance of Hall of Famer and Charlotte owner Michael Jordan, and Portland billionaire owners Paul Allen, considered to be hard-liners -- Kessler said owners never really made any.
"They came in here with a prearranged plan to try to strong-arm the players," he said. "They knew today they were sticking to 50, essentially 50.2. They were going to make almost no movement on the system, and then they were going to say, 'My way, or the 47 percent highway."
He added there was no reason to talk again before Wednesday if the owners stick to their current position.
Other items in the new owners' proposal related to rules for teams paying the luxury tax and for the use of the midlevel exception. Players have said the system issues are just as important as the BRI split, because they fear owners' proposals essentially would prevent teams in the biggest markets from being free-agent options.
A month of the season already has been lost, and more games could be in jeopardy soon. Nobody said the decertification threat made any real impact on the discussions, but Fisher also said there's not a deal yet that's worth a vote.
If they can't agree to one by Wednesday, it will be even harder to find common ground. Players already rejected a flex cap in June.
Fisher and Kessler again questioned the owners' willingness to negotiate, but Stern said they were ready to make a deal -- by Wednesday.
"We want to allow the union enough time to consider our most recent proposal, and we are hopeful that they will accept," he said.
As for the Wednesday deadline, he added that it "doesn't aid the negotiating process to just leave it hanging out there."

Amy Winehouse's Official Toxicology!

Many people including myself have jumped to conclusions on what they believe caused the death of the late Amy Winehouse.  Based on her past struggles with drugs, many assumed that she probably died from an overdose.  What was found in her toxicology was a lot different than what many of us would have expected!

Check out this article from www.abcnews.com:

There were "no illegal substances" found in Amy Winehouse's body at the time of her death, her family claims, according to The Associated Press.
The family revealed the results of a toxicology test in a statement released today.
"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death," the statement read. "Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."
"The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October," the statement concluded.
Winehouse's formal cause of death remains unknown and will be not be released until October.
The 27-year-old singer was found dead at her flat in London's Camden district July 23.
Officials reportedly found no drug paraphernalia or sign of drugs in Winehouse's home.
Bruce A. Goldberger, a toxicology professor at the University of Florida, said the negative toxicology result does not completely rule out the involvement of a drug or a combination of drugs that could have been missed by the testing procedures or were metabolized before the test.

DELONTE WEST FILLS OUT APPLICATION TO WORK AT HOME DEPOT!

Delonte West stated via his twitter page that he has recently filled out an application to work at Home Depot.  Many players have chosen to go overseas to obtain money during the lockout, however West won't allowed to do the same.  Delonte has had a few issues with the law over his career, so the judge will not allow him to leave the country.

Check out this article from Yahoo, which speaks about West and other players' ventures during previous lockouts:

DWYANE WADE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING PLAYING OVERSEAS!

Dwyane Wade according to several reports is considering playing overseas if the NBA lockout doesn't come to an end.  Many players have decided to take contracts overseas, but the trend of superstars began when Deron Williams decided to sign with the Turkish club, Besiktas.  Besiktas is also rumored to be in talks with another NBA superstar, Kevin Durant.  I see how this makes sense for some players, but not for Wade.  He has been injured several times in his career, so I think the lockout will give him some time to rest his body.  According to the Associated Post he was quoted as saying, "I'm going to play basketball this year.  I don't know where, but I love the game so much that I will play it."

Check out this article from espn.com which speaks about Wade possibly playing in China:

Dwyane Wade's agent said Friday his client has received no offers nor has had any discussions with professional teams from China, but he wouldn't rule out the possibility of that scenario changing.

"If offers are made down the road, will they be looked at? Absolutely," agent Henry Thomas told ESPN.com on Friday.

The Chengdu Daily reported that Zhejiang Guangsha was offering Wade $2 million per month to play next season in the Chinese Basketball Association, a report that was later denied by a team official.

Wade's agent also said it was untrue, but he made clear that the Miami Heat guard would look at China as an option if the NBA lockout lasts into the fall.

Wade was in China last month, along with several other NBA stars, for endorsement tours. There have been reports on other Chinese media sites that large offers will be made to Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki.

"Neither Dwyane Wade nor I have received any offers like that," Thomas said.

Sources with knowledge of the Chinese Basketball Association's inner workings confirmed to ESPN.com's Marc Stein earlier this week that the Chinese league was giving strong consideration to implementing a rule that would prevent NBA players from playing in China during an extended work stoppage.

Asked if there has been any dialogue between Wade and Chinese teams, Thomas said there has been "nothing."

"Dwyane said something along the lines of that being 'premature' and 'we're not there yet,' and that is accurate," Thomas said.

TRUEBLOOD: SEASON FOUR, EPISODE SIX RECAP!

Well, we are at the halfway point of the season and it looks like this has the potential to be the best season EVER!  This last episode was very reminiscent of the impact episode two had.  It was non-stop action and it looks like the second half of the season will be very interesting.

Bill finally finds Eric after Pam tells him about his whereabouts.  I never thought that Pam would sell Eric out, but the way her face is peeling by the second, she isn't quite herself anymore.  Eric's memory is still completely wiped out besides recent events, and he would have killed Bill if Sookie had not stopped him.  Sookie has fell for this new, loving and caring Eric who is very similar to Godric.  Bill asks Nan Flanigan for a warrant to give Eric the "truth death" because he is a risk.  When given the warrant, Bill recognizes how different Eric truly is and he frees him.

After Tommy killed his parents he was very distraught.  Luna mentioned in an earlier episode that if a shifter kills their mother, there is a possibility that they can "shift" into other humans.  Tommy, who had no idea about this ability, was able to turn into Sam.  Tommy being Tommy uses this ability to no good.  After being shifted back to himself, he became very sick and he is found by Sam later in the evening looking lifeless.  We'll see what happens from there.

Marnie is back at it as well.  Trapped in the basement of Bill's home, she once again calls on the spirit of Antonia.  We now see why Antonia is so angry with vampires, as they tortured her to death.  Antonia now takes over Marnie's voice and body. After putting a spell on one of the sheriffs, she looks like she will be able to escape.

We finally realize that Jason won't be able to become a were-panther.  This part of the show was dragging on for too long, so I'm glad they cleared it up.  Since he drank Jessica's blood, they have become a lot closer and seem to like each other.  I see Jason and Hoyt having issues in the near future because of it. I can't wait until next week!

The 27 Club!

Amy Winehouse is the latest to join the "27 Club" when she was found dead in her home in Camden, London.  Amy was extremely talented and it is unfortunate that she was only able to live to the age of 27.  Ironically, she isn't the only musical superstar who has died at the young age of 27.  I don't know what it is with this age, but I find this trend to be sad and extremely disturbing!

Famous Members of the 27 Club:

Brian Jones- founder of the Rolling Stones.

Cause of Death- Drowned in a swimming pool

Jimmy Hendrix- Electric Guitarist, Singer, and Songwriter for The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Cause of Death- Autopsy shows choking on vomit after mixing wine with sleeping pills

Kurt Cobain- Founding member and lead singer of Nirvana

Cause of Death- Suicide

Janis Joplin
- Lead singer for several bands such as: Big Brother and Holding Company, The Kozmic Blues Bands, and Full Tilt Boogie Band.

Cause of Death- Heroin Overdose

There are many other musicians that are a part of this "club."  It is just sad to see such talented artists die at such a young age. Rest in Peace!
